Community Wallpaper Project

:new:  I have just released a news article to help spread the word.

Read it here: news.deviantart.com/article/38…

CWP Info

Fractalist.  Fractophile.  Apoholic. Whether you are a fractal n00b or a veteran, I'm looking for you!  Yes, that's right. Everyone is invited to participate.

Inspired by the efforts of Gurly and Project-4, I want to piece together a polyptych wallpaper (composed of small, individual fractal pieces, like this example clairejones.deviantart.com/art… ).  Many of you know that both of the collaborative efforts mentioned above are currently in a state of limbo.

As I was reflecting over the unfortunate situation last night, a thought occurred to me: I could start a similar community project.  It's not as though I am any less qualified and I'm always kicking myself for lost opportunities (hey, that sounds like a good idea for a club...oh, someone just beat me to it).  This time, I want to have a community project with a more reasonable goal and time schedule.  For example, I will collect submissions only through the month of December.

This is not a contest.  There is no winner or prize given away, less the finished wallpaper.  This is a community collaboration for everyone to join together and make one unique wallpaper from many images, while having a little fun.  I do plan on offering a special stamp you can use in journals once you've made your first submission (yet to be uploaded), something along the lines of "I participated in the Community Wallpaper Project".

Please spread the word!  Let's make this effort a success.  Bear with me as I'm still trying to put this together.  Stamp donations and journal mentions are greatly appreciated.  If all goes well, I would love to do a second.  :aww:

~Claire

Important Dates

Deadline: December 31st
Finished Piece Release: January 2008

Submission Guidelines

  1. Must be sized (in pixels) as one of the following:
    • 100x100 (small square)
      • 100x200 or 200x100 (medium rectangle)
        • 200x200 (large square)

    • Place this release in the deviation description: "I give ClaireJones permission to use this piece in the "Community Wallpaper Project" and upload the final work as a submission to dA."

    • Submit the square/rectangle to your Scrapbook (or gallery, if desired) and note me with a link/thumb to the deviation.

FAQ

Does it have to be a fractal?
Yes.  Any fractal generating application may be used, such as Apophysis, Ultra Fractal, XenoDream, Mind Boggling Fractals, Fractint, Fractal Forge, Agony, Fractal Explorer, Tierazon, ChaosPro, Chaoscope, SterlingWare etc.  Also allowed are layered fractals, but do keep in mind that such detail will be lost on a small image.  Post-editing is fine.

What colours are preferred?
The more colours, the better!

How many submissions am I allowed?
Currently, there is no limit, so start sending them to me.  Although, please be reasonable.  Fifteen is probably overkill.  ;)

Will you use all of my submissions?
In the case of excess submissions, not all pieces from a deviant will be used.  However, I will make sure that every deviant who participates in this project will be represented in the final design.

Is it fine to add borders or text to my submission?
Do not add additional elements like borders or text.  Just the plain fractal is perfect.

Are you going to steal/take credit for my work?
I really don't think I could get away with that.    All deviants who participate will be displayed in the deviation description.

Will I get paid?
No.

You're calling it the "Community Wallpaper Project"?!
Got a better name?  Send it to me!  :D

Are You in Ryan's Army?

Project Ryan's Hope Stamp by Bound-By-Leather   Support Ryan Stamp by RyansArmy

Ryan Christopher Brumpton is One Year old. For most of his life he has been on Chemotherapy as he has a rare brain tumor which was diagnosed at three months old. Ryan's prognosis is somewhat unclear as the doctors have only treated one other patient with tumor similarity which was almost ten years ago.

Auction for Maria

Maria is a year and a half old.  She was diagnosed with neuroblastoma.  The good news is that half of the children who have this type of cancer can be successfully treated.

LuvEnder is auctioning off originals and prints of her amazing work.  Proceeds go to pay for Maria's treatment.  Take a look at the available pieces and start bidding: luvender.deviantart.com/journa…

You can read more about Maria here: www.helpmari.com/en/

Free Rice

I stumbled across this site by way of the stamp above.  It's a very addictive site that now donates 20 grains of rice for every correct answer to the vocabulary game.  So, read the news article here news.deviantart.com/article/36… and join in on the fun!

Adopt-A-Turkey Project

:thumb70450695:

Started in 1986, Farm Sanctuary holds an Adopt-A-Turkey event each holiday season.  A $20 donation provides you with a one-time adoption fee, colour photograph of the chosen turkey, adoption certificate and a one year membership for the Farm Sanctuary's quarterly newsletter.  Each donation goes to food, bedding and veterinarian care for the turkeys.

View the current turkey adoption list here: www.adoptaturkey.org/adopt.htm

Noting Guidelines

At the moment, I am no longer taking any notes regarding CSS/Apophysis/etc. help.  I have much going on in my personal life and can no longer assist dA members with these issues.

Thank you for understanding.

frac·tal1   /ˈfræktl/

noun Mathematics, Physics.
a geometrical or physical structure having an irregular or fragmented shape at all scales of measurement between a greatest and smallest scale such that certain mathematical or physical properties of the structure, as the perimeter of a curve or the flow rate in a porous medium, behave as if the dimensions of the structure (fractal dimensions) are greater than the spatial dimensions.
